Preparation for soldering the joint |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In order to twist the two gutter lengths into each other without tension, the lip of the outer gutter is cut out at an angle of 45°. |
On both gutter sections, mechanically clean the surfaces to be soldered to give bright, oxide-free metal.In practice, abrasive paper (150 grit) has proved suitable.
|
To achieve a soldering gap smaller than 0.5 mm, which is essential for a strong joint, it is advisable to pre-tension the outer gutter. |

Connect the sections with an overlap of 10 mm - 15 mm. |
The flux keeps the joint free of oxidation during soldering and ensures that the solder wets the metal, flows and bonds with the metal. It is only applied on the internal surface over a width of approx. 2 cm. Use a flux that complies with DIN 8511, e.g. F-SW21. |

L-SN-Cu 3 solder must be used for the joint. The soldering iron (500 g chisel iron) is moved at constant speed, and not too slowly, from the inside of the lip to the wall-side edge, while applying the appropriate quantity of solder. |
When soldering is complete, only the inside surface should be wiped with a damp cloth. Do not wipe the outside to avoid damaging the patina. |
